On a precarious pillar of rock, jutting out from the center of a massive lake, rests the town of Tabby Cat. Tabby Cat Town is met on the rock pillar in the lake by a large wooden bridge, equally precarious. The funny town acquired its name when travelers saw far in the distance a tabby cat meowing on the rock pillar, and the question spread like wildfire of how the tabby cat had managed to get on the rock pillar.

Tonight, in the wondrous town of Tabby Cat, our friends gather around a campfire under a dazzling display of string lights as string instruments strum all over the rock pillar. It was very often they’d throw parties, and very often they’d have no reason to celebrate other than life itself. A small boy rushes over to a canon and shoots a firework into the starry sky. Sparkling green fire erupts and dissipates into nothingness. The small boy watches his work color the night, but as the firework disappears, he sees in the distance the horror of Maldoom leering in the clouds.

A terrifying beast had been resurrected by the evil Galandeer, who sought the land of Myrrain’s destruction. Tabby Cat Town was far from the impending doom, but it was nearly impossible to avoid the haunting reminders of death. Maldoom would float in the sky – a swirling serpentine that roared hellish roars – and as it passed through the sky, Maldoom would consume and destroy the people below. It was slowly making its way towards the kingdom, far south of Tabby Cat Town; but it would have to travel through the poor town resting idly on the precarious pillar.

The small boy watches the demonic serpent haunt the night far in the distance, knowing one day it might come. The only hope anyone had was if the rumored hero named Apollo would find the enchanted sword of diamond buried in a hidden ruin, said to be the only weapon the pierce the armored scales of Maldoom. Perhaps Apollo would discover the diamond sword before it reached Tabby Cat Town, the small boy thought.

As did everyone in our friendly town below; they all hoped and prayed that Apollo might find the diamond sword soon, for their sake. When Galandeer resurrected Maldoom, the town of Tabby Cat spent most waking hours treading through the day in order to reach night, where they’d sleep only to wish they’d never wake up into the same dreadful morning. Their lives, much like the rest of Myrrain and all its inhabitants, had wallowed in a pit of sorrow and hopelessness. But fortunately our town of Tabby Cat decided they’d not waste their final days moping and crying. No, they’d spend it rejoicing the life they had been given, however long they had.

The small boy runs back to his smiling parents and cozies up between their legs beside the campfire to listen to the charming plucks of a lyre. The town gathers around the campfire and bobs their heads as a band orchestrates an improvised melody for its people. They dance and skip and laugh and share admirable tales of their lives before. Together, our wonderful residents of Tabby Cat Town recall the joys of life and the fun they’ve had on this precarious pillar in the middle of a large lake.

The night is no longer young and they are tired now. The people of Tabby Cat Town put out the fire and hug each other goodnight, ready to see each other in the morning. If Maldoom doesn’t reach them by morning, they shall have another day of celebration, rejoicing the gift of life. Perhaps Apollo will find that diamond sword before morning; perhaps he has already found it. But they choose to let their worries go and enjoy the precious time they have left. The kind town of Tabby Cat says goodnight and goes to sleep on their precarious pillar.
